Tangential Velocity Calculator

Tangential Velocity Calculator:

Enter the values of angular velocity, ω(rad/s) and radius, r(m) to determine the value of tangential velocity, Vt(m/s).

Enter Angular Velocity : rad/s

Enter Radius : m

Result – Tangential Velocity : m/s

Tangential Velocity Formula:

Tangential velocity is the component of motion along the edge of a circle measured at any point on a rotating object.

Tangential velocity, Vt(m/s) in metres per second is calculated by multiplying the angular velocity, ω(rad/s) in radians per seconds and radius, r(m) in metres.

Tangential velocity, Vt(m/s) = ω(rad/s) * r(m)

Vt(m/s) = tangential velocity in metres per seconds, m/s.

ω(rad/s) = angular velocity in radians per seconds, rad/s.

r(m) = radius per metres, m.

Tangential Velocity Calcuation:

1.A carousel spins at an angular velocity of 2 radians per second and has a radius of 3 metres. Determine the tangential velocity of a point at the edge of the carousel.

Given: ω(rad/s) = 2rad/s, r(m) = 3m.

Tangential velocity, Vt(m/s) = ω(rad/s) * r(m)

Vt(m/s) = 2 * 3

Vt(m/s) = 6m/s.

2.A bicycle tire rotates with an angular velocity of 15 radians per second, and the tangential velocity of a point on the edge of the tire is 45 metres per second. Find the radius of the bicycle tire.

Given: ω(rad/s) = 15rad/s, Vt(m/s) = 45m/s.

Tangential velocity, Vt(m/s) = ω(rad/s) * r(m)

Vt(m/s) = Vt(m/s) / ω(rad/s)

Vt(m/s) = 45 / 15

Vt(m/s) = 3m.
