Air Velocity Calculator

Air Velocity Calculator:

Enter the values of air flow rate, AFR(m3/s) and duct area, DA(m2) to determine the air velocity, Vair(m/s).

Enter Air Flow Rate : m3/s

Enter Dct Area : m2

Result – Air Velocity : m/s

Air Velocity Formula:

Air velocity is defined as the speed at which air moves through a specific area.

Velocity, Vair(m/s) in metres per second, is calculated by dividing the air flow rate, AFR(m3/s) cubic metres per second by the duct area, DA(m2) in square metres.

Air Velocity, Vair (m/s) = AFR(m3/s) / DA(m2)

Vair(m/s) = air velocity in metres per second, m/s.

AFR(m3/s) = air flow rate in cubic metres per second, m3/s.

DA(m2) = duct area in square metres, m2.

Air Velocity Calculation:

1.A ventilation system has an air flow rate of 0.5 m3/s and the air moves through a duct with an area of 0.25 m2. Calculate the air velocity.

Given: AFR(m3/s) = 0.5m3/s, DA(m2) = 0.25m2.

Air Velocity, Vair (m/s) = AFR(m3/s) / DA(m2)

Vair(m/s) = 0.5 / 0.25

Vair(m/s) = 2m/s.

2.The air flow rate (AFR) is 1.2 m3/s, and the air velocity is 3 m/s and find duct area.

Given: AFR(m3/s) = 1.2m3/s, Vair(m/s) = 3m/s.

Air Velocity, Vair (m/s) = AFR(m3/s) / DA(m2)

DA(m2) = AFR(m3/s) / Vair (m/s)

DA(m2) = 1.2 / 3

DA(m2) = 0.4m2.
