Muzzle Velocity Calculator

Muzzle Velocity Calculator:

Enter the values of kinetic energy, KE(ft.lb) and mass, M(gr) to determine the value of Velocity, V(ft/s).

Enter Kinetic Energy : ft.lb

Enter Mass : gr

Result – Velocity : ft/s

Muzzle Velocity Formula:

Muzzle velocity is the speed at which a projectile leaves the barrel of a firearm. It’s a crucial measure for understanding the performance of firearms and ballistic projectiles.

Velocity, V(ft/s) in feet per seconds is equal to the square root of twice the kinetic energy, KE(ft.lb) in foot-pounds is divided by the mass, M(gr) in grains and then dividing the projectile’s mass in grains by 7000.

Velocity, V(ft/s) = √( 2 * KE(ft.lb) / M(gr)/ 7000)

V(ft/s) = velocity in feet per seconds, ft/s.

KE(ft.lb) = kinetic energy in foor-pounds, ft.lb.

M(gr) = mass in grains, gr.

Muzzle Velocity Calculation:

1.Calculate the muzzle velocity of a bullet with a kinetic energy of 1300 ft·lb and a mass of 150 grains.

Given: KE(ft.lb) = 1300ft.lb, M(gr) = 150gr.

Velocity, V(ft/s) = √( 2 * KE(ft.lb) / M(gr)/ 7000)

V(ft/s) = √( 2 * 1300 / 150 / 7000)

V(ft/s) = √( 2600 / 0.0214.286 )

V(ft/s) = 348.329sft/s.

2.A bullet has a kinetic energy (KE) of 1500ft/s and leaves the gun barrel with a muzzle velocity (V) of 900 ft/s. Find the mass of the bullet in grains.

Given: KE(ft.lb) = 1500ft.lb, V(ft/s) = 900ft/s.

Velocity, V(ft/s) = √( 2 * KE(ft.lb) / M(gr)/ 7000)

M(gr) = 2 * KE(ft.lb) * 7000 / V2(ft/s)

M(gr) = 2 * 1500 * 7000 / 9002

M(gr) = 21000 / 810000

M(gr) = 25.93gr.
