Velocity Calculator:
Enter the values of initial position, P1(m), final position, P2(m) and time, t(s) to determine the value of Velocity, V(m/s).
Velocity Formula:
Velocity is the measure of the speed and direction of an object over a specified distance and time. It is calculated by dividing the change in position (displacement) by the time it takes to move from one position to another.
Velocity, V(m/s) in metres per second is calculated by subtracting the initial position, P1(m), from the final position, P2(m) and dividing the result by the time interval, t(s) in seconds.
Velocity, V(m/s) = (P2(m) – P1(m)) / t(s)
V(m/s) = velocity in metres per second, m/s.
P1(m) = initial position in metres, m.
P2(m) = final position in metres, m.
t(s) = time interval in seconds, s.
Velocity Calculation:
1.A car moves from a starting point at 0 metres to 100 metres in 5 seconds. Calculate the velocity of the car.
Given: Given: P1(m) = 0m, P2(m)= 100m, t(s) =5s.
Velocity, V(m/s) = (P2(m) – P1(m)) / t(s)
V(m/s) = (100 – 0) / 5
V(m/s) = 20 m/s.
2.A cyclist travels from a position of 50 metres to a position of 200 metres. The velocity during this period is measured at 30 metres per second. Calculate the time it took for this journey.
Given: Given: P1(m) = 50m, P2(m)= 200m, V(m/s) = 30 m/s.
Velocity, V(m/s) = (P2(m) – P1(m)) / t(s)
t(s) = (P2(m) – P1(m)) / V(m/s)
t(s) = ( 200 – 50 ) / 30
t(s) = 5s.
