Wire Pull Force Calculator

Wire Pull Force Calculator:

Enter the values of coefficient of friction, u, diameter of the wire, d(in), length of the pull, L(ft), material factor, M and gauge of the wire, I to determine the value of Wire pull force, WPF(lbs).

Enter Coefficient of the Friction :
Enter Diameter of the Wire : in
Enter Length of the Pull : ft
Enter Material Factore : m
Enter Wire size : G

Result – Wire Pull Force : lbs

Wire Pull Force Formula:

The wire pull force calculation estimates the force needed to pull electrical wire or cable through a conduit or duct, considering factors like the frictional resistance, wire size, pull length, and wire gauge.

Wire pull force, WPF(lbs) in pounds is equated by dividing the product of coefficient of friction, u, square of diameter of the wire, d(in) in inches and length of the pull, L(ft) in feet by material factor, M and gauge of the wire, I.

Wire pull force, WPF(lbs) = u * d2(in)* L(ft) / M * I

WPF(lbs) = wire pull force in pounds, lbs.

u = coefficient of the friction.

d(in) = diameter of the wire in inches, in.

L(ft) = length of the pull in feet, ft.

M = material factore.

I = wire size in gauge, G.

Wire Pull Force Calculation:

1. Determine the Pull Force for a 0.1-inch Diameter, 14 Gauge Wire Over 200 Feet.

Given: u =0.3, d(in) = 0.1inches, L(ft) = 200ft, M = 0.8, I = 14.

Wire pull force, WPF(lbs) = u * d2(in)* L(ft) / M * I

WPF(lbs) = 0.3 * 0.12 * 200 / 0.8 * 14

WPF(lbs) = 0.0535lbs.

2.Suppose you need to calculate the gauge of a wire based on the following known parameters:

Given: u =0.2, d(in) = 0.25inches, L(ft) = 100ft, M = 1.0, WPF(lbs) = 5lbs.

Wire pull force, WPF(lbs) = u * d2(in)* L(ft) / M * I

I =u * d2(in)* L(ft) / M * WPF(lbs)

I = 0.2 * 0.252 * 100 / 1.0 * 5

I = 0.25.
