Capacity Factor (CF) is a measure of how efficiently a power plant or energy-generating system operates over a specific period of time.It indicates the ratio between the actual energy output (AEO) produced and the maximum possible energy output (MEO) if the system operated at full capacity for the same duration.

CF is expressed as a decimal or percentage and is a key metric in evaluating the performance of renewable and non-renewable energy sources.A higher capacity factor means the system is generating electricity close to its full potential, implying better utilization and reliability.

For example, a CF of 1 or 100% means the plant operated at full capacity continuously, while a CF of 0.5 or 50% means it produced only half of its maximum potential energy.Capacity Factor helps in assessing the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of power generation systems.

It is especially important for renewable sources like wind and solar, where generation depends on weather and environmental conditions.Non-renewable plants (e.g., coal, nuclear) typically have higher capacity factors because they can run consistently.
